Are You a Brunch Pigeon?

because "Late to Rise, and Can't Stay Up" isn't really catchy...

It’s currently 5:30PM, and I’ve been awake for 12 hours and 40 minutes. For those of you who are not timelords (or, good with math), it means I’ve been up since 4:50AM. And here’s the weird part: It was on purpose. In fact, today was the 38th day in a row I’ve gotten up at 4:50AM. And if you’re anything like me, you’re probably thinking, “UGH, why?!?”

Honestly? I don’t really know. I woke up one morning at 4:50AM (38 days ago to be precise), and I was oddly alert. So I figured, ok, I guess I’ll get up. And by the time I put on my pants, and felt my way to the bedroom door (I didn’t want to wake up my wife), it was still before 5AM. And it was actually kinda cool. I didn’t really get all that much more accomplished, but it was so peaceful. So quiet.

Wow… my drawing skills have improved quite a bit since this comic was created!

Like any nerd, once I started waking up early, I decided to read up on how to be a morning person. Someone recommended The 5AM Club, by Robin Sharma. You can read my review in the link, but it was… odd. It had some good info, but I listened to the audiobook version, and it was an 11 hour fictional story about 2 people falling in love while they follow an eccentric billionaire around the world learning how to wake up and be successful. Weird book. But getting up early has been incredible.

What Have You Been DOING with All That Time?

So, about that. The first few weeks, I actually went back to bed at about 6:30AM. I figured I had officially gotten up, and I was really tired. It seemed foolish to take my ADHD medication at 5AM, because it would wear off long before the end of the work day. And… it does. But I started taking it anyway, and it let me get a bunch accomplished before anyone else in the house woke up. It means I’ve been able to start a new training series on YouTube, and I’m really happy with how it’s shaping up.

If you’re not really interested in Linux, or learning IT stuff from my YouTube channel, that’s perfectly OK. But if you know someone who might want to learn how to do that sort of thing, maybe send them a link. :)

Lastly, Guess What?!? My Big Round World is Turning 1!

Crazy, right? I can’t believe it will be a year this coming Wednesday, March 30, 2022. But not only have I gotten significantly better at drawing, I’ve also gotten to the point where drawing a comic has sort of become my daily journal. If you ever wonder how things are going in my life, just read my comic. It’s usually a good litmus test for how I’m doing in meatspace.

I figured I should do something special for the 1 year anniversary of Blue Square existing outside my brain. So, if you haven’t already gotten a Spot sticker, I set the price down to $1 (with free shipping) to celebrate the first year of MBRW. I know it’s not a huge giveaway or anything, but it’s not like my comic is super popular. Y’all are early adopters, and I am super grateful. :)

I suppose that’s probably enough for this issue of The Nerdling Newsletter. Next time I’ll probably talk about Kool-Aid, because summer is just around the corner here in the US, and that means it’s Kool-Aid season. And I have *lots* to say about Kool-Aid…
